I was thinking of the word blessed. I was asking myself what I thought it meant. Now I may be way off but I see it this way. If anyone sees I am wrong or has another way of explaining it, I'd love to know. This is just my thoughts.
I love to proclaim how God has blessed and is blessing. We all have ways of expressing through words. For me, to say I have been blessed or "that is a blessing" is a way of saying that God is showing favor, love, mercy, goodness, faithfulness etc etc. I am blessed in every area in my life. In my worst times and best. The only reason I have the right and opportunity to say I am blessed is all because of our gracious GOD! I think of the word blessed as meaning, " I have received favor and love from God" not just physically but more importantly spiritually and to proclaim I have been blessed is a way to show thanks and praise back to God for his goodness. I believe He wants to bless our hearts, and make us a blessing as well. I pray I might be a blessing to Him. I believe blessings are received as a natural occurrence and is a reaction when living by and receiving the spirit of God in our lives. He is the blessed, blessing and blesser!
just a few mentions of "blessing, blessed, bless" I thought I would add....
Ephesians 1:3"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings"
Genesis 12
What God says to Abraham
" Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."
I hope my opinion makes sense a little bit, I've never been good at explaining how I think of something.
anyway I am going to take a little nap!

Kesh,
I feel so BLESSED to have you as my girl! It is such an enouragement for me to know that I have a woman who really desires to know and love the Lord. It is plain for me to see that you are a gift from God. You are an example of how God has "shown favor and love" towards me. I pray for you all that time that you would come to know Him more intimately. You life speaks of Him in many many ways, and I am truly a lucky fellow to have you as my gal!
Love,
Vin
I think your definition of "blessed" or "blessings" is legitimate. However, I think the term or concept is most commonly misused in two ways:
1) In general, Christians see being "blessed" as a personal thing from God. This is partially true, however in the Scriptures God blesses people for the purpose of the entire body. Another way of putting it is when God gives a blessing to someone, it's meant for the benefit of everyone else as well. I cannot think of an example where God blesses a single person for their own sake and not for anyone else.
2) In general, Christians use the idea of being "blessed" as more of an emotion. When something good happens in life, it becomes a "blessing" from God. When they feel good and life is just grand, they feel "blessed." It becomes an emotional expression, a substitute for feeling good, happy or the like (i.e. "I feel so blessed"). How often do Christians feel blessed under persecution? Paul rejoiced that he was worthy to suffer for the sake of the gospel - I think he felt blessed at the time.
I think these phrases just add to our Christianese - a language the outside world doesn't understand and a language the Christian world has a hard time interpreting.
Yes, I can agree with you on that. I think it can be misused for sure along with many other words and meanings and scriptures etc. That is just what happens when people tend to make their own meaning for things rather than learn the true meaning.
Thanks for taking time to write that out. I appreciate it!
